Getting Into the Nuts and Bolts of It

New DTM page: Interview of Ellery Eskelin by Jacob Wunsch.

I've always admired Ellery's playing, and it's been a pleasure to work on this interview and listen to both Trio New York and Trio New York II. In particular, I appreciate how Ellery is influenced by Coleman Hawkins, Earl Bostic, the Tristano cats, the avant-garde...the whole continuum is there to be used, and to my way of thinking that's just as it should be.

In a nice moment of unity, Jacob contacted me about hosting this interview just one day after I discovered the 1996 WFMU article "Rodd Keith Revealed," Ellery's account of his mysterious father, a cult hero and composer of some of the most famous "Song Poems."
