North Sea Snafu

The Bad Plus had a really nice time playing the North Sea Jazz Festival today.  However, we got off to a bad start. The official program

had a problematic blurb:

Of course, TBP is a band of equals. Reid Anderson and David King have been "featured" as much as I have in the band's twelve-year history. Indeed, I have composed the least for the TBP repertoire, and on many of our tunes the bass and drums play a greater role than the piano in crafting the final aesthetic.

Our fans understand this.

At this point, it's incredible that it is still so confusing for some distant observers or jazz scribes.

I hope that DTM isn't obscuring the issue. Reid and Dave are under no obligation to succumb to peer pressure and operate social media while I cheerfully submit. I am not nearly so talkative in rehearsal!

At least, since we are a band, there was no doubt who was on our gig. In the same booklet, some prominent leaders didn't have the names of their North Sea ensemble listed. It's time for this to change.
